Baby in a Box

Our vibrant daughter is now 6 months old and will turn 7 months on the 23rd of March. It’s incredible how much she is growing, learning, exploring. She is able to sit up with assistance, but she is quite bored of uninterrupted play on her stomach or back. She can’t crawl yet, so she gets very frustrated staying in one place for longer than a few minutes.

She also prefers to do things on her own. When I help her, she sometimes pushes me away or lets me know with a sound that she would prefer to try it out herself. She spends most of her time on mats on the floor and when I need to get things done, her bouncy chair. Oh yes, and she absolutely loves sitting in her highchair to explore and taste new foods.

But there are times I’d like for her to explore with her hands without me assisting her to sit. So I’ve been trying hard to find a creative solution.

So I came up with “Baby in a Box”!

My friend bought the awesome blooming bath baby for us before we came back to Belize. Our daughter used it for the first few months of her life and it worked so well. Now it’s become a plush seat, a soft toy for our daughter to explore, and a pretty addition to her playroom.

We also purchased a few bins to store books and toys.

Put the bin + blooming bath baby together and you get a perfect way to please your “not-quite-sitting up-on-her-own” baby as she explores new items on her own! Always put your baby on safe mats or carpet. This “homemade” way of assisting your baby to sit could definitely TIP OVER with a rambunctious babe!! Always watch your child & only give her safe items to explore on her own.

Haha, aww that is so cute!!
When my youngest (now 8 months old) was just learning to sit up, I put her in our rectangular laundry basket with a blanket. She loved it!!

Haha, exactly! 😉 It works in the bathtub, too (putting an emerging sitter in a laundry basket). BUT, you still (obviously) have to have your hands nearby. 😉

  2. Such a great idea! My son just turned 6 months on the 9th, and gets restless quickly. Something like this seems PERFECT!
